St. Joseph Church, Martigny-Croix

Built between 1968 and 1970 on the hills above Martigny-Croix, Saint-Joseph Church is a masterpiece of modern religious architecture in Valais. Designed by Marius Zryd, it stands out for its diagonal square floor plan, its exposed timber frame, and its bold use of raw concrete, subtly warmed by wood and Paul Monnier’s stained-glass windows.

This series of images was captured without a commission, with the aim of documenting this exceptional building, which is underrepresented in current photographic archives. The approach: to do justice to the natural light, the interior geometry, the materials, and the unique proportions of this space.

The sculptural elements designed by Yoki, the liturgical works, and the spatial arrangement of the pews and architectural volumes were photographed with particular attention to the balance between intimacy and grandeur.

A purely documentary project, halfway between architectural reporting and an atmospheric study.
